Festive Greetings from Lokxion Lifestyle

Dear All

The last 12 months have swirled through and around, leaving me with an enormous sense of gratitude and readiness for 2013. Let me start with some thoughts from our Supporters, then give you some glimpses into my own deeper dives into our work.

Lokxion Lifestyle is everyday accountability to our Supporters, and 2012 was a big year. We have achieved a lot beyond our reach and capabilities, all thanks to you all. Our achievements can’t be quantified, as lives were impacted and the experience was overwhelming. We faced with lots of challenges equal, on which we have learnt and we will build from them.

In the midst of the achievement, we experienced the turbulence and transitions expected of Lokxion Lifestyle as we make a jump-step toward scale. Given that we “accompany” our communities through similar transitions, I hope the experience will make us better partners in the future. I give enormous thanks to every team member who gave so much of themselves during the year, for it has been one of growth, change, and a reaffirmed commitment to standing with the Township(s) – Kayamandi.

In late 2011, a decision was made to register Lokxion Lifestyle under new companies act.   Slu (Silulami Mbokwana) and I took the leading role. We went out seeking advisors and advice on how can best we can implement our vision. We met and spent time with extraordinary people, we were advised to always remember why we do the work we are doing, to keep our eyes on the scale, and to build long-term relationships. It has not been an easy journey.

In the early 2012, we visited many communities, Du Noon & Joe Slovo, Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, Lwandle & Nomzamo, Zwelethemba, Mbekweni, Masiphumelele,  Bloekombos & Wallacedene, just to name a few.  In these communities we met young inspired people who wish to make a difference in their communities. As our slogan says Lokxion Lifestyle “sees Diamonds in Townships”, it’s true. One needs to invest in mining them.

In search for partners and organisations with the same vision as Lokxion Lifestyle, we met very interesting organisations and just to name a few, 7570 Youth In Action, Igniting Ambitions, Suns and Daughters, Stellenbosch Heritage Project, The Dead Parrots Society, Stellenbosch SIFE, Klein Libertas Theatre and many others.  Bridges were built on our visions and possible projects identified.  As 2013 resume, these organisations will be revisited with the purpose to reinforce our relationship and assess the feasibility of possible projects.

As we concluded 2012, we say thank you. Thank you for your association with Lokxion Lifestyle’s vision. As we try to re-live each moment of 2012. It’s clear we can’t replace it with anything.  The projects implemented was a test, more lessons were derived from them, than success. With these lessons, we will capitalize on them and create more innovative projects for 2013 and future.

We are each other’s destiny. It is our choice—and obligation—to create a future where everyone counts. This future is possible. I have never felt that more than I do today. It will require us all to recognize that the status quo is not an option and that each of us is needed to change the way the townships tackles challenges (unemployment, poverty, crime, ect).

We need your support more than ever—and we thank you for all you have done and given!

The whole team wishes you light, peace, and hope in 2013.

Regards,

Paul Roviss Khambule
